Introduction
I have been associated with Developmental Biology group at MACS-Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), Pune, an autonomous institute of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, since 1985. My main research interests are cell signalling during pattern formation and regeneration, evolution of developmental mechanisms and stem cell biology. I have used chick and frog embryos, sponges, hydra and human mesenchymal and embryonic stem cells in my work. Over the past two decades, I have tried to reintroduced hydra as a model system for teaching and research in India. I love teaching and popularising developmental biology in institutions, including schools, across India. I am currently the President of Indian Society of Cell Biology (2023 -2025) and am a past-President of Indian Society of Developmental Biologists.
